I. Effigy of the duchess de Nemours, by Henri Chapu. 1881-83. Marble, 62 by 229 cm. Purchase: with the assistance of the NACF (Inv. 1994. 129). Walker Art Gallery. From the Church of St Charles Borromeo, Weybridge. The duchess was the daughter-in-law of the deposed King Louis Philippe of France who with his family lived in exile at Claremont, Surrey, after the 1848 Revolution. She died there in 1857 and was buried at Weybridge. Her close friend and cousin Queen Victoria declared the effigy most beautiful'.
