[Wartski, 14 Grafton Street, London] A Musical Necessaire. An early nineteenth-century Viennese gold mounted standing musical nécessaire set with panels of lapis lazuli, the lid of which opens to reveal a comb, scissors, tweezers, spoon and pencil. When the triggers at the side are pressed, the doors spring open to reveal two seventeenth-century painted enamel plaques of Old Testament scenes. The inside of the organ contains graduated gold pipes and a red enamel clock in an openwork gold panel. The thumb push at the front of the nécessaire releases the silver and gold 'keyboard' to reveal a compartment for the key. The nécessaire is surmounted by an openwork gold panel in the Renaissance taste which is decorated with enamel and set with rubies, pearls and a diamond. Height: 5 5/16 inches
