(top left) Boldly chased rectangular snuff box in four-colour gold, inlaid with dark sepia-coloured mother-of-pearl serving as a background to a series of mythological beasts and birds. The borders round the cover and base chased with flowers, leaves and scrolls in relief over granulated paths. By Gabriel-Raoul Morel. Paris, circa 1820. Length 8.1 cm ($3frac{3}{16}$ in). (front) Oval gold snuff-box chased with scrolling borders framing reserved areas enamelled en plein in the manner of Philippe Parpette with painted vases and bowls of flowers, fruit and, on the cover, a carafe and glass of red wine. The borders are further embellished with emerald-green basse-taille enamel over engraved fields. Each still-life painting is seen against an architectural background, the four round the walls of the box form a continuing enfilade. By Jean Moynat. Paris, 1758. Length 5.7 cm (2¼ in).

Probably for Sir Thomas Wolrich, 1st Baronet (1595-1668), who suffered severely for his unbending loyalty to Charles I, being twice sequestered and more than once thrown into prison. However, he was rewarded by the monarch in 1641, when he was appointed Governor of Bridgnorth.

This large, beautifully painted sketch illustrating Racine's play of Andromaque is a preparatory work for Guérin's painting now in the Musée du Louvre (Inv. No. 5183), Paris. The large painting (3.42 × 4.57) was first shown at the Salon exhibition of 1810 ȧnd again in 1814. This sketch must be dated ca. 1809-10. Paintings by Guérin are extremely rare, most having been retained in French collections. The only American museum in possession of a work by him is the J. B. Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Kentucky.
