From the Collection of Count de Montbrizon, Château St. Roch, France. Nicholas de Villegatgnon was knighted in 1521. Took part in the expedition of Charles V against Algiers in 1541. In 1555, with the assistance of Coligny, he founded a Protestant colony at the delta of the Rio de Janeiro River. In 1568 he represented the Order of the Knights of Malta at the French Court.
