In this one, a battleship flying the Dutch flag has dropped anchor in front of the bastion defending the access to the harbour. In the foreground, a launch is nearing the shore to load the bales brought by Eastern merchants. To a refined sense of harmony in the colours is added a rigorous technique, perceptible in the precision of the detail.

The table is veneered in Kingwood and strung in Boxwood and Ebony and is mounted in ormolu: length 45″, depth 23″, height 29″. An unusual pair of French Empire Candelabra C.1830. The marble columns enriched and mounted with ormolu, supporting putti playing musical instruments with ormolu foliage and five candle branches, 25″ high.
