The maker's name appears once in its complete for (J. Bte Cde Odiot) and once in initials (JBCO around a shield within a diamond) (S. Grandjean L'orfevrerie du XIXe Siecle en Europe. Paris. 1962. 142 and 144-451).

He inherited the Baroncy of Le Despencer in 1788, aged 22, the year after this portrait was painted. He died on 3rd October 1831.
