[ Ronald A. Lee, 1-9 Bruton Place, London ] An outstanding Charles II spring table clock by Joseph Knibb of London, circa 1673-75. The degree of finish and originality is quite exceptional in all aspects of the clock, including the dial, its fittings and the Silver chapter ring. The presence of the reference "Invenit et fecit" undoubtedly refers to the Roman notation striking of which this may be the first example. The appearance of the spoked style to the count wheel is the earliest hitherto recorded. The pendulum bob is numbered 1-8. Illustrated and further discussed - Ronald A. Lee, Knibb Family Clockmakers 1964. (plates 72 & 128). At one time the property of Georgina, Duchess of Devonshire. Height 13.5 ins, 8 day duration, Dial size 8.5 ins.
