This was the Chateau mark of the Duc de Penthievre, Grand Admiral of France, 1725-1793, who acquired Chanteloup, which previously belonged to the Duc de Choiseul, in 1786. Lit:-C. F.-Cent Chefs-D'Oeuvre de Musee Des Art Decoratifs, Paris P.84., which illustrates a very similar fauteuil also from the design by J-C Delafosse (1734-1789). Measurements: width 30″ 76 cms; depth 29″ 74 cms; height 40″ 102 cms.
